Saleh and his family took us in like we were their own daughters. More than just a tour, they offered a family experience, all the while seeing the famous sites throughout Wadi Rum, learning some history, enjoying fantastic food, marveling at the brilliant desert night-sky, and riding a camel (an extra expense, but must-do if it's your first time -- there is no better setting).Saleh was very clear and timely in his communication leading up to our visit. I highly recommend him, especially for unaccompanied female travelers.

My husband and I booked a 4x4 tour and stayed in Saleh’s camp. It was one of our best experience in our life the camp is well equipped and comfortable. Saleh’s son Moaz took us on a tour with one of their 4x4 car which we enjoyed very much Moaz is the best tour guide in Wadi Rum he took us all of the nice places what Wadi Rum can offer and told us every story about the local places and the people. After we had a really nice meal cooked by Saleh’s wife and watched the sunset which is the best to look from the benches by the camp. Thank you very much will never forget.

With Saleh you are not treated as a tourist but as a true guest in his home. We had a chance to see marvellous magic of Wadi Rum with all major spots and the sunset on the desert. Evening and overnight in his desert camp will stay with us as a unforgettable memory. We were travelling as a family with three children and the whole day trip enriched with camel ride was the best time we spent in our trip to Jordan.

Had the best time spending two nights in Saleh’s camp and getting to know him and his family. They treated us like family and took great care of us from the transportation to seeing the best sites. Alia, his wife made delicious food catered to our dietary needs and likes and we had a ton of fun spending a day in the desert with his son, Moaz. We left with memories we will cherish and will definitely want to come back! Can not say enough great things about the experience.

Thank you very much, Saleh and Alia, for welcoming us into your camp. You made us feel like family! Thank you for cooking delicious vegetarian meals for the five of us. The camel ride was safe and unforgettable. Your handsome son, Moaz, gave us a great full-day tour of the nearby stunning sites; cooked a meal for our leisurely lunch as we relaxed in the cool shade, and timed it perfectly to close our day with a spectacular sunset experience. We will long remember sleeping outside under the starry, desert sky. Blessings on you and your family. We will treasure our very fond memories of being with you all.

My family group of four had a wonderful experience with Saleh and his family and I highly recommend Saleh’s Safari Camp.I was looking for a local company that I could book with direct (not through a booking site or an agent). Saleh’s website accurately describes the tours and stays he offers and the prices - there is nothing hidden. We opted to take a camel ride out into the desert before being picked up by a family member for a memorable ride in the back of a pick up truck. The driver took us to all the best places (along with tourists with other operators) and then let us get on with it. In other words we had the best balance of a guide and freedom. The camp is perfect: basic, but comfortable and clean. Saleh’s wife cooked us a delicious meal and breakfast the next day. There were just two other family groups staying and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. We took our children aged 14 and 13 and this is perfect for adventurous teenagers.

Saleh was really welcoming and friendly. Nothing was rushed, he took his time to take us to the best spots. Ride was very bumpy and shaky in the jeep, but I believe that is to be expected on the Wadi Rum desert terrain. Got some excellent photos Great experience, great value for money too!

What a wonderful place! Stayed several nights here; Saleh and his family are great hosts, wonderful food, the tours were both relaxing and spectacular. This camp has no neighbors close by, and is very very quiet. The stars are bright at night. Staying here is like visiting family.

Saleh Musa Sweilheen is a bedouin from the Huwaitat tribe, descendants of the Nabateans who built Petra. He's lived in Wadi Rum all his life and his parents before him. His grandmother's brother, Selim, who died in the village in 2009, is believed to have been over 100 years old. Saleh has been guiding visitors around Rum for nearly 20 years.
Saleh's wife is Alia, they have four children, Hajjar, Mu'ad, Omar and Mohamad.
His brother is Atiyek, a mechanic, bedouin climber and tracker.
His mother, who lives with them, is Khadra, who looks after the family's goats and camels.
We have known Saleh and his family since the late 1990s, having come to Jordan ourselves a few years earlier. He is a good friend and the two families are very close. We have helped each other in important ways over the years. This web-site is our latest joint venture.
My name is Tudor Lomas, I'm a former BBC journalist, now based in Holland and Jordan; my partner is Brenda, like me a former journalist but now designing and making a range of local jewellery We know what Saleh has to offer to visitors and we have worked with him to construct a range of tours that provide unforgettable experiences of Rum for everyone except the hardened, technical climber. Saleh is the perfect guide for families, for those who care about history and environment, for those with more time to experience everything Rum has to offer and for those who want an individual tour.
Saleh and his family want everyone who comes to Rum with them to love the place as much as they do. Therefore we welcome constructive feedback, however critical, as long as it is intended to be helpful and to improve what we're doing.
You can contact us by emailing Saleh (the emails are copied to us) and we will make sure you get a full reply; we can also give you phone numbers in Holland and Jordan if you want to discuss things with us personally. We also have our own holiday apartments in other special locations in Jordan, including on the Red Sea in Aqaba and at the Dead Sea.
If you want to write to us directly then PO Box 850191, Amman 11185, Jordan will reach us; but it may be a few weeks before we are able to reply.
