(Duration: one-day-and-one-night, or longer)
This is a combined tour and workshop session, run by Saleh's wife and his mother. In the
company of women only, they can remove their veils and talk freely about their lives. You will
shop together, cook Bedouin food (in the house and desert), make bread, tea and coffee, learn
about natural remedies for common ailments and experience the rythmn and history of life for
bedouin women. (It's a good idea to bring photos of your lives to talk about and compare.)
Together you will also go on Tour 1 (Magic of Wadi Rum) or any other tour; a party of women in
the back of the open 4x4, with Saleh just driving and helping with translations when necessary.
Alia drives too and is learning English.
Saleh's mother, Khadra (which means green), was born in a tent in Wadi Rum and so were her
children. She is the herdswomen of the family, taking the camels to pasture and milking the
goats as well as passing on traditions and knowledge to her two sons and her grandchildren.
Saleh's wife, Alia, is a full partner in the business. Tradition prevents us showing Alia's face here
but amongst other women she can remove her veil and chat openly about her life and why she
prefers to live in the harsh beauty of Wadi Rum.
(Introductory offer --
135 JDs for a group of up to four women for one day and one night.)
Welcome; I'm Saleh. With my wife and family we offer every kind of guided tour in Rum. Camping, 4x4 safaris, mountain scrambles, bedouin cooking and culture, desert trekking, secret valleys and special places. Ten different tours!.
